Great Vespers at a Vigil: Sunday (Sat. eve.)

Resurrection, with saint of the temple* or a saint of vigil rank ; not during a forefeast or afterfeast

Lord, I Call: 4 resurrection + 6 saint; glory: saint; now: dogmatikon in the tone of the week (regardless of the tone of the “glory”).

Litya: 1 sticheron of the temple (namely, the 1st sticheron from the litya of the patronal feast); then all the litya stichera of the saint being celebrated; glory: saint; now: resurrectional aposticha theotokion in the tone of the glory. (If it is the patronal feast of a temple that bears the name of a saint, all of that saint’s stichera are sung; then glory: and so on, as before).

Aposticha: All resurrection; glory: saint; now: resurrectional aposticha theotokion in the tone of the glory.

Troparia: Rejoice, Virgin Theotokos (2x); Saint (1x). (If vigil is not served: Resurrection; glory, saint; now: theotokion in the tone of the glory.)


* Note: if on one day both the temple saint and another great saint are celebrated, we sing the other saint’s service when the rector or superior wishes.

Leave-taking of the patronal feast

At vespers on the same day as the feast of the patron saint of a temple, the Leave-taking of the feast of the temple is observed under certain conditions.
