He is a manager for the South Carolina State Ports Authority, while Elizabeth is a businesswoman who has worked for many years in the hospitality industry. “Some people take in stray animals,” they note. “We take in stray people.” Over the years they cared for Elizabeth’s mother as her health declined due to breast cancer, and then also brought their three remaining parents to live out their final years at the Barna home.
