Archdiocese of Pittsburgh and Western PA lecture series begins October 5

PITTSBURGH, PA [OCA Communications] — The annual fall lecture series sponsored by the Diocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania’s Department of Religious Education will begin on Thursday, October 5, 2006 and continue on Thursday evenings through the end of October.

All lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Church, 105 South Nineteenth Street, Pittsburgh, PA. The lectures will focus on Orthodox liturgical theology, and will feature the Very Rev. Theodore Heckman, an instructor at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA.

The first lecture, by Father Theodore, will explore the fundamentals of Orthodox liturgical theology. The second lecture on October 12 will focus on the significance and theology of the icon in Orthodox worship.
“Redemption of All Things” will be the theme of the third lecture on October 19, while the final lecture will underscore the importance of sacred signs, symbols, and actions in Orthodox liturgical worship.

Vespers will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. before each lecture.

Registration fee for the lecture series is only $15.00. Registration will be at the door. No donation is requested for children and students.
