Churches for Middle East Peace seeks intern

WASHINGTON, DCChurches for Middle East Peace [CMEP] is currently looking for an intern to work with the agency from January 17 through May 12, 2006.

Formed in 1984, CMEP is a coalition of 21 Orthodox Christian, Catholic, and Protestant bodies and organizations that works in support of US policies that are conducive to a two-state resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the sharing of Jerusalem by the two peoples and three faiths. CMEP engages directly with Congress and the Administration and provides educational materials and advocacy guidance to individuals and congregations throughout the country.

The intern will be responsible for conducting research on issues related to US policy in the Middle East, including media coverage, historical documents, legislative actions and processes and statements from religious bodies. He or she will also compile information for and help create educational resource materials that will be disseminated to grassroots advocates, update media and congressional contact lists, assist with the agency’s web site, assist with preparation and distribution of written communications to Congressional offices, and assist with routine office duties.

Interns also will have the opportunity to attend Congressional briefings and events related to Middle East issues.

Interns should be resourceful, hardworking, organized, and pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies. Excellent writing, editing and communication skills are essential. Web research, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access are necessary (FrontPage or Dreamweaver a plus). Creativity and the ability to work independently, as well as a commitment to Churches for Middle East Peace’s goals as posted at www.cmep.org/AboutCMEP.html are also essential. A background in Middle East issues is preferred.

The internship involves approximately 15 hours per week.
