Educational resources for 2006 youth theme now on-line

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — Educational resources on the Orthodox Church in America’s 2006 youth theme, “Our Church and the Future,” are now available on the DCE web site at dce.oca.org/Sections/MiniUnits/MiniUnits.asp?referenceID=Future.

Developed by the Department of Christian Education [DCE], the downloadable educational resources available for three levels: pre-kindergarten/kindergarten, junior [7-9 year olds], and intermediate
[10-12 year olds]. Two class sessions are available for each level. A teacher’s guide with background information and resources, including downloadable festal icons, activities, and music, also are available. The lives of three saints—Genevieve of Paris, Patrick of Ireland, and Moses the Black—are included in the resources.

The study units emphasize how the People of God are called to spread God’s love as the apostles did, to grow in faith and ability in order to serve the Church, and to carry out God’s plan in our own lives.

According to Mrs. Alexandra Safchuk and Mrs. Valerie Zahirsky, DCE co-chairs, the Holy Synod of Bishops selects a different theme each year which forms the basis of a variety of educational, service, and outreach activities for children, youth, and young adults. This year’s theme follows up on the theme of the 14th All-American Council, held in Toronto, ON, Canada in July 2005.

Funding for the development of these and other educational and youth resources are provided by the Fellowship of Orthodox Stewards.
