Fall 2006 liturgical music chat room schedule released

The Orthodox Liturgical Music Chatroom is only one of the several new features offered by the OCA Department of Liturgical Music and Translations. Any church musician or interested person may enter the chatroom and participate in a discussion relating to Church music, hymnology, vocal technique, rubrics, etc. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 8:30 PM [EST].

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — The fall 2006 schedule of topical discussions available on The Orthodox Church in America’s liturgical music chat room was announced recently by Prof. David Drillock, chairman of the Department of Liturgical Music and Translations.

The chat room provides a for choir directors, singers, and others interested in liturgical music to discuss liturgical hymnology, repertoire selection, liturgical chants, church rubrics, vocal techniques, the choir and congregational singing, music and liturgy, and relatedissues.

The new chat room season will begin on September 5, 2006 a chat on pastor-choir director communications by Prof. Drillock.

Subsequent chat room thmes include the following.

September 19—Forming a Children’s Choir; Alice Hughes, presenter.

October 3—Building a Local Inter-Orthodox Ministry; Valerie Yova, presenter.

October 17—Setting Texts to Music; Dr. Vladimir Morosan, presentor.

November 9—Topic to be announced; Mark Bailey, presenter.

November 21—Georgian Music; John Graham, presenter.

December 5—The Structure of Vespers; Dr. Joseph McLellan, presenter.

December 19—Effective Musical Leadership; the V. Rev. Sergei Glagolev, presenter.
