Holy Synod of Bishops to meet October 24-26, 2006

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — Members of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America will gather at the OCA Chancery here October 24-26, 2006 for their annual fall session.

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, will chair the session.

After the opening Service of Prayer in Saint Sergius Chapel on Tuesday morning, October 24, Metropolitan Herman will deliver his opening address to the Holy Synod.

The hierarchs will hear a variety of reports from various Church departments, offices, and ministries. A report on the investigation being conducted by Proskauer Rose law firm will also be given. Updates on the ongoing “Best Practices” project and The Honesdale National Bank loan also will be presented.

On Wednesday, October 25, the hierarchs will attend the Divine Liturgy, to be celebrated by His Grace, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, in Saint Sergius Chapel. The day’s agenda will include reports on annual and special appeals, the 2004-2005 audits, and the 2006 six-month financial review.

The hierarchs will hear reports on the work of the Administrative Reorganization Task Force and the 15th All-American Council. Reports on the work of the Fellowship of Orthodox Stewards, Planned Giving, Special Appeals, and the Pension Board also will be heard.

The fall session will conclude on Thursday, October 26.
