Holy Transfiguration Monastery Ellwood City, PA

ELLWOOD CITY, PA [OCA Communications] — The annual Mother Alexandra Memorial Retreat will be held at Holy Transfiguration Monastery here on Saturday, September 23, 2006.

The retreat honors the memory of the monastery’s pioneering foundress, Mother Alexandra.

Open to the public, the retreat will open with the celebration of the Akathistos Hymn and Procession with the Ellwood City Icon of the Mother of God at 11:00 a.m. A lunch will be served at noon, during which the monastery bookstore will be open. Guests may also wish to participate in nature walks on the monastery grounds.

At 1:30 p.m., Gary Cattell, known on the campus of Penn State University as “The Willard Preacher,” will deliver a lecture. Gary has been speaking outdoors four to five hours daily on the Penn State campus for the past 24 years, engaging students in biblical, moral, and spiritual conversations.
His conversion to Orthodoxy in 1999, his ongoing ministry, and his understanding of today’s youth is a story everyone will be interested in hearing.

The retreat will close with the celebration of the Vigil at 4:00 p.m. in the monastery church.
