Institutional Chaplains invited to join Military Chaplains at conference

SOUTH CANAAN, PA [OCA Communications] — With the blessing of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, a conference for institutional, military, and VA chaplains will be held at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary and Monastery here November 2-4, 2006.

The working theme of the conference is “Orthodox Chaplaincy: Ministry in a Pluralistic Context.”

“During this conference we will dialogue about our respective ministry settings, explore models of pastoral caregiving that will inspire us in attempting to remain authentically Orthodox while offering care to a broad spectrum of persons in need, plan for the development of our newly formed department, and learn valuable insights from our military chaplains about being available to service men and women returning from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and throughout the lifespan,” according to the Rev. Steven Voytovich. “All Orthodox institutional chaplains are asked to attend this important gathering. Those who are endorsed are expected to attend in lieu of making visitations to your sites. As you are expected to maintain endorsement in serving as a chaplain, this conference should be submitted as part of your professional training budget.”

CCE units will be applied for from the Association of Professional Chaplains, according to Father Steven.

The conference registration fee is $75.00, payable to the “OCA Chaplain Conference.” The fee may be paid upon arrival or sent in advance to Father Steven Voytovich at 170 Bunker Hill Rd., Guilford, CT 06437. Participants are asked to make hotel reservations directly with the Comfort Inn, 117, Twin Lakes Road, Lake Ariel, PA (Exit 17 off of I-84) by calling 570-689.4148. Special room rates are available through October 23, 2006.
