Lesser Synod of Bishops meets

The meeting of Lesser Synod of Bishops at the OCA Chancery offices on September 21, 2006.

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — On Thursday, September, 21, 2006, the Lesser Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America met at the Chancery here under the chairmanship of the Primate, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman.

The primary task of the meeting was to consider various topics and prepare a tentative agenda for the Fall 2006 meeting of the Holy Synod of Bishops, slated to be held October 24-26, 2006.

The following topics were reviewed and discussed:

  • The ongoing investigation being conducted by the Proskauer Rose law firm.

  • The status of specific financial projects: the status of the Annual and Special Appeals Review 2001-2005; the status of the Year 2004 and 2005 Audits; and the status of the Year 2006 first six months review.

  • The status of The Honesdale Bank loan.

  • The Best Practices Task Force report.

  • The Administrative Reorganization Task Force report.

  • The Church Ministries Report.

  • The Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the America’s Episcopal Conference, to be held in Chicago October 3-6, 2006.

  • Fifteenth All-American Council options.

  • The proposed OCA Statute revision project.

  • External Church Relations.

  • The members of the Lesser Synod Issued statements regarding the status of the ongoing investigation as well as the audits and reviews.

    In addition to Metropolitan Herman, other hierarchs participating in the meeting included His Eminence, Archbishop Nathaniel of Detroit and the Romanian Episcopate, who was invited to participate due to the absence of His Eminence, Archbishop Kyrill of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania and the Bulgarian Diocese; His Eminence, Archbishop Job of Chicago and the Midwest; His Grace, Bishop Seraphim of Ottawa and Canada; His Grace, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania; and His Grace, Bishop Nikon of Boston, New England, and the Albanian Archdiocese, who participated as a guest.
