Metropolitan Herman in DC for Annual March for Life

Clergy and faithful from across the US will join members of the local chapter of Orthodox Christians for Life in welcoming His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, to Saint Nicholas Cathedral here on Wednesday, January 21, the eve of the annual March for Life. Metropolitan Herman will preside at a pro-life Vesper service, slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday, January 22, Metropolitan Herman will lead the hundreds of Orthodox Christian marchers expected to gather at the Ellipse at noon as they make their way to the US Supreme Court.

“Following President George Bush’s address to an anticipated 100,000 marchers, Metropolitan Herman will be interviewed live by the Eternal Word Television Network [EWTN],” according to the Very Rev. John Kowalczyk, a well known pro-life activist. “Metropolitan Herman is expected to be the first religious leader to address the marchers. His address also will be covered live by C-Span and hopefully major networks.”

This year marks the 18th consecutive year Metropolitan Herman has participated in the annual march in protest of the Supreme Court’s Roe V Wade decision which legaled abortion on demand in the US. He will be joined by His Grace, Bishop Job of the Orthodox Church in America’s Diocese of Chicago and the Midwest, and other hierarchs.

“Once again, Metropolitan Herman will offer memorial prayers for the victims of abortion in front of the Supreme Court at the conclusion of the march,” Father Kowalczyk added.

On Thursday evening, Metropolitan Herman will be one of four speakers addressing nearly 1000 pro-life leaders attending the annual Rose Banquet, slated to be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, during which he will reflect on the Orthodox Church in America’s witness to the sanctity of life.
