Metropolitan Theodosius celebrates final Divine Liturgy at St Sergius Chapel

On Tuesday July 16, 2002 His Beatitude Metropolitan THEODOSIUS, primate of the Orthodox Church in America celebrated his final Divine Liturgy in the Chapel of St Sergius of Radonezh at the National Chancery for the Orthodox Church in America.

His Beatitude celebrated the Divine Liturgy with Protopresbyter Robert Kondratick, V Rev David Brum, and Rev Michael Anderson. In attendance were members of the Chancery Staff who have worked with the Metropolitan handling the day to day responsibilities of the Chancery.

After blessing the faithful at the conclusion of the Liturgy, His Beatitude remarked, “How fitting is was that having worked together for so many years that we should pray and partake of the Eucharist together as well. There are so many memories, from the day to day operations here to decorating for Christmas and Pascha, all for the glory of God.”

On behalf of the Chancery Staff, Fr Kondratick, Chancellor of the OCA offered brief remarks to the Metropolitan, saying, “It has been a joy and a pleasure to work for you, dear Vladyko. Your spirit of love has been an example to all of us and strength when faced with handling all the tasks set before us. You have given us a peace and security to work in. Guiding us, you have shared yourself with each of us and become an important part of our life in the Church.”

Because of the deep love and affection for the Metropolitan, it was a very moving and bittersweet occasion, knowing that he would be able to enjoy his retirement, yet not be with the staff on a day to day basis.

The Metropolitan thanked everyone for their dedication and service to the Church sacrificing their time, personal lives and willingly giving to God that which was necessary for the building up of His Holy Church, here in America.

After the greetings, a brief luncheon was held in the Chancery Dining Room, and the staff joined His Beatitude for a formal portrait to remember and thank him for everything he has shared with them over the past twenty-five years.

On Friday July 19, 2002, His Beatitude will arrive at the Renaissance Orlando Resort Hotel for the 13th All-American Council which will take place from July 21-26, 2002 in Orlando, Florida.

Photos and information about the Council will be available each day at http://www.oca.org.
