NYC Cathedral to Host Liturgical Music Workshops

Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral, 59 East Second Street, New York, NY will be the site of a liturgical music workshop from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2004.

At 9:00 a.m. the Akathistos Hymn will be sung, with the conference slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m.

Dr. Vladimir Morosan will conduct the workshop, which will explore the theme “A Capella Singing—How to Do It Well.” A noted Orthodox musician and lecturer, Dr. Morosan is a member of the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Liturgical Music and Translations, choir director at SS. Peter and Paul Church, Meriden, CT, Past President of PSALM; and Founder and President of Musica Russica, Inc.

The workshop will demonstrate techniques of building choral ensemble, including breathing, diction, and uniformity of vowel production, phrasing, and pitch awareness, with ample singing time to learn and illustrate techniques.

Dr. Morosan will also demonstrate PSALM’s new Liturgical Music Resource, a database of downloadable and printable music.

In order to assure the viability of the workshop, pre-registration is essential. To register, send a check for $15.00 payable to Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral, together with name, address, telephone number and e-mail contact, to October Workshop, 38 Pearl St., New Hyde Park, NY 11040.
