OCA Holy Synod of Bishops Gathers for Fall Session

Members of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America will meet at the Chancery here October 20-23, 2003.

Chairing the session will be His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, who will deliver his address to the Holy Synod on Monday evening, October 20.

On Tuesday morning, October 21, the session will open with the report of Protopresbyter Robert Kondratick, OCA Chancellor, a report on the forthcoming 10th anniversary of the OCA’s Representation Church of the Great Martyr Catherine in Moscow, and reviews of the work of the Church’s departments.

During the remainder of the four-day session, the hierarchs will review a number of other issues facing the Church on the international and domestic levels. It is anticipated that during the session His Grace, Bishop Nikon of Baltimore, Auxiliary to the Metropolitan, will be canonically elected to fill the vacant cathedra of the OCA’s Albanian Archdiocese. At the recent Assembly of the Albanian Archdiocese, Bishop Nikon was elected as the candidate for the vacant seat.

Full coverage of the Holy Synod’s fall session will be featured on the OCA web site at www.oca.org and in the November-December 2003 issue of “The Orthodox Church” newspaper.
