OCA Holy Synod of Bishops to Meet at St. Tikhon’s Monastery October 18-21, 2004

—His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, will preside at the fall session of the Holy Synod of Bishops at Saint Tikhon Monastery, South Canaan, PA October 18-21, 2004.

During the four-day session the hierarchs will review various aspects of the life of the Church, including the work of the OCA’s departments, offices, and other ministries. They will also review plans for the 14th All-American Council, slated to convene in Toronto, ON, Canada in July 2005 and consider the ongoing review of the OCA Statute. Plans for the celebration of the centennial of Saint Tikhon Monastery, North America’s oldest monastic community, and the 35th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Herman of Alaska, will also be reviewed.

On Tuesday, October 19, the hierarchs will concelebrate the Divine Liturgy with Metropolitan Herman, marking the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the Holy Priesthood. An anniversary banquet will follow that evening in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
