Saints John Chrysostom and Gregory the Theologian

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications]—The return of the relics of Saints John Chrysostom and Gregory the Theologian from Pope John Paul II to His All-Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople, will be broadcast live on the Eternal Word Television Network [EWTN] at 5:00 AM ET on Saturday, November 27, 2004. An encore broadcast will be aired at 3:00 PM ET the same day.

Pope John Paul will present the relics to Patriarch Bartholomew in ceremonies held in the Vatican.

In response to the request of Patriarch Bartholomew, Pope John Paul II agreed to return the saints’ relics, which will be enshrined in their original resting place at the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Originally enshrined in Constantinople, the relics were taken to Rome after the crusaders sacked the Byzantine capital in 1204.

Also attending the ceremony will be Roman Catholic Cardinal Keeler of Baltimore and His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, a member of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
