Fall discussion activities now available from DCE

With Church School classes opening this month, the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Christian Education has prepared three sets of activities for teen and adult discussion groups, which may be accessed on the DCE web site.

The resources, which highlight the lives of saints commemorated by the Church during the month of October, are based on three of the Sunday bulletin inserts available for downloading.  Each set of activities is followed by suggested answers to questions and/or directions for group leaders.

For younger students, the story of Saint Martin of Tours, commemorated on November 12, may be found here.  This appealing saint’s life is written for two age levels—ages 8-11 and 12 and over—and includes discussion activities.

In related news, the Orthodox Christian Education Commission [OCEC] will sponsor a teacher training event, titled “Educating Ourselves and Our Children in Godliness,” at Holy Trinity Church, 414 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT on Saturday, September 20.

Presenters include Archpriest George Alberts, OCEC Teacher Trainer and Regional Coordinator for the Department of Christian Education of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America [DCE-AOCA]; Khourya Anna Hughes, OCEC Teacher Trainer and DCE-AOCA New England Regional Coordinator; and Matushka Myra Kovalak, OCEC Teacher Training Department and Intermediate Curriculum Specialist, of the OCA’s DCE.

Topics will include an “Overview of Orthodoxy: Introduction to Church School Ministry,” “Introduction to Teaching: Building Your Students, Building Your Staff,” and “Curriculum and Resources.”
