Over 30k raised for Sexton Relief Fund, to support displaced priest and family

As reported on March 5 on oca.org, while Priest Adam R. Sexton was celebrating the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, March 4, a fire overtook the rectory of Saint John the Baptist parish in Nanticoke, PA, leaving Father Adam, his wife, and their eight children without a home.

Two days after the blaze, St. Tikhon’s Seminary established a fund to assist the family. “The love and support of people who have helped us during this time has been both overwhelming and sobering,” said Father Adam Sexton, who graduated from the Seminary in 2008.

During the first week of April, the dean of St. Tikhon’s, Archpriest Alexander Atty, presented Father Adam with checks and donations for over thirty thousand dollars raised on his family’s behalf by the seminary’s Sexton Relief Fund.

“Thankfulness doesn’t even begin to describe the gratitude my family and I have for this outpouring of love and generosity,” said Father Adam. “The response to this tragedy has been nothing short of a miracle and if I learned anything at all during my time at St. Tikhon’s it is that when a miracle is happening, it’s best to take a step back and appreciate it, but to by no means attempt to control it. My family and I are just thankful to be able to be part of such a move of the Holy Spirit on the hearts and minds of the faithful everywhere.”
