Apostle Sosthenes of the Seventy

St Sosthenes was one of the Seventy Apostles who were chosen and sent forth to preach by Christ (Luke 10:1).

Before accepting Christianity, St Sosthenes was head of the Jewish synagogue at Corinth. During a riot against the Apostle Paul, he too suffered a beating. He was converted by Paul to faith in Christ and afterwards became bishop at Caesarea.

St Sosthenes is also commemorated on December 8 together with Sts Tychicus, Apollos, Cephas, Epaphroditus, Caesar, and Onesiphorus. All of these saints departed to the Lord in peace.
