Department of Liturgical Music chatroom topics announced

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — The Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Liturgical Music and Translations recently announced topics and speakers for it’s popular chatroom for the months of April through June.

On Tuesday, April 17, the Very Rev. Lawrence Margitich will speak on reviewing and selecting appropriate music for liturgical services.

Prof. Joseph McLellan will offer insights into the structure of Matins with special emphasis on resources for the Saturday evening Vigil service on Tuesday, April 24.

The Monk Sergius [Bowyer] will offer a presentation on commitment to Christ through liturgical participation on Tuesday, May 8.

Composing methodology will be the topic of a presentation by Ivan Moody on Tuesday, May 22, while the Rev. Sergius Halvorsen will lead a discussion on techniques for training Church readers on Tuesday, June 5.

Dr. Nicolas Schidlovsky will offer a unique presentation on the Old Believer musical tradition on Tuesday, June 19.

All chat discussions begin at 8:30pm EDT on the days listed.

The chatroom provides a setting for choir directors, singers, and others interested in liturgical music to discuss liturgical hymnology, repertoire selection, liturgical chants, church rubrics, vocal techniques, the choir and congregational singing, music and liturgy, and related issues.
