Holy Trinity Church, East Meadow, NY, to host retreat on “Security and Spirituality”

Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of East Meadow, Long Island will host a retreat on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The topic “Of whom shall I be afraid? Security and Spirituality in Today’s World” will be presented by Archpriest Andrew Jarmus, Director of Ministries and Communications of the Orthodox Church in America.

Fear is a universal human experience. We find our fears being played on by everything from the media to urban legends. “Security and Spirituality” examines how security concerns emerge from a fear for our well-being, and how this fear is put to rest by the message of the Gospel.

In the summer of 2007, Archpriest Andrew Jarmus moved from Canada to take on the position of Director of Ministries and Communications in the Orthodox Church in America. Before he was received into the OCA’s Archdiocese of Canada, Fr. Andrew had served as the Director of Missions and Education for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. He also worked as the Church’s Communications Director. Fr. Andrew has traveled throughout Canada giving lectures and leading retreats. He is the author of numerous articles on Orthodox spirituality, as well as four books: “On Issues of Aging, Sickness and Dying,” “On Behalf of All and For All: A Guide into the Divine Liturgy for Laity,” the “Parish Growth Resource Guide” of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, and the “Guiding Principles Bible Study” series.

Admission to the retreat is free and refreshments will follow the lecture.
