Metropolitan Herman to Celebrate Nativity, Theophany at DC Cathedral

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman celebrating the All-Night Vigil for the Feast of Our Lord’s Nativity at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC [OCA Communications]—His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, will celebrate the Vigil for the Great Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord at Saint Nicholas Cathedral here on Friday, December 24, 2003 at 7:00 p.m.

Earlier the same day, the Vesperal Divine Liturgy for the Eve of the Nativity will be celebrated at the cathedral at 10:00 a.m.

On Saturday, December 25, the Great Feast of the Nativity, Metropolitan Herman will celebrate the festal Divine Liturgy at Saint Nicholas Cathedral at 9:00 a.m.

Metropolitan Herman also will celebrate the Vigil for the Great Feast of Theophany, which commemorates the Baptism of Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. and the festal Divine Liturgy on Thursday, January 6, at 10:00 a.m. Following the Liturgy, he will preside at the Great Blessing of Water.

The beautifully frescoed cathedral, of which the Very Rev. Constantine White is dean, is located in the heart of “embassy row” in the US capital at 3500 Massachusetts Avenue NW. Modeled after the famous 14th century Church of Saint Demetrius in Vladimir, Russia, the cathedral serves as the seat of the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America.
