Monastery of the Transfiguration to host clergy seminars presented by Protopresbyter Thomas Hopko

The Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration in Elwood City, PA, will host two clergy seminars presented by Protopresbyter Thomas Hopko.

The first seminar, titled “The Priesthood through History and Today,” will take place on Thursday, January 31, 2008. Fr. Tom will lead a discussion about how the understanding and practice of the offices and ministries of the Church’s bishops, presbyters and deacons changed and developed in Church history, and how these changes and developments impact the life of the Church today, especially here in America.

The second seminar, Tuesday, March 4, 2008, is titled “Preaching the Word of God in Church”. At this seminar Fr. Tom will discuss the Liturgical Sermon in Orthodox Church worship and life, emphasizing the uniqueness of the Liturgical Homily in its relation to other kinds of teaching and speaking, and outlining the essential characteristics of the Sermon’s composition, delivery, place and significance in Liturgical Worship.

Both seminars will run from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
