New Skete Monastery announces annual pilgrimage

The communities of New Skete Monastery here recently announced plans for their annual pilgrimage on Saturday, August 11, 2007.

The pilgrimage’s liturgical services include the celebration of Matins at 8:30 a.m., the Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m., and Vigil at 5:00 p.m.

Throughout the day, talks on the pilgrimage theme, “Encountering God through Creation,” will be offered.

Jack Phillips, M. Th., author of “Planting Ephrem’s Tree: Reflections on Creation from the Christian Near East,” will speak on “Planting the Tree of Life,” while New Skete’s Sister Rebecca will offer a presentation titled “Icons as Manifestations of the Divine Presence in Creation.”

The pilgrimage will also feature a variety of food booths, exhibits, tours of the monastery churches and grounds, hiking, activities for children and teens, and a dog training demonstration. The faithful also are invited to spend quiet time in reflection and prayer on the monastery grounds.
