Presenters:

The Very Rev. Joseph Lickwar was born in East Chicago, Indiana. He did his seminary education at Christ the Savior Seminary in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. In 1963 he married Anna (Shirley) Michalov and was ordained to the priesthood on July 7by Metropolitan Orestes (Chornock). He has served parishes the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese at Akron, Ohio, McKeesport, PA and East Pittsburgh, PA. In 1974 Fr. Lickwar was received into the Orthodox Church in America and assigned to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Whitestone, NY where he served for 17 years. In 1991 he transferred to his current parish of Ss. Peter and Paul, Jersey City. He was elected and appointed Dean of New York City Deanery for three years and in 2003 he became Dean of the New Jersey Deanery.

The Very Rev. Elias Bitar is pastor of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Little Falls, NJ, and Instructor of Byzantine Chant and Music at St. Vladimir’s Seminary, Crestwood, NY, and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Sacred Music at St. Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA. He has taught Byzantine music for more than 25 years. He was born in Syria in 1948 and attended Balamand Seminary in Lebanon, where he studied religious education, dogmatics, New and Old Testament, and music. He also studied Theology and music in Greece. He received Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from St. Vladimir’s Seminary, Crestwood, NY, in 1975 and 2000, respectively.

Rev. Andre Papkov was born in Munich, Germany, in 1951. After emigrating to the U.S. in 1956 with his parents, he completed his primary and secondary schooling, as well as his theological training, B.Th., at the Holy Trinity Seminary, Jordanville, NY. He graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music with a master’s degree in vocal performance. He toured as soloist with choirs in the U.S., Canada, as well as in Russia and has made a number of recordings he also works in the field of vocal pedagogy. Having been ordained to the diaconate in 1973, Father Andre was assigned respectively to the Holy Protection Church, Nyack, NY, 1973-76, Holy Virgin Cathedral, San Francisco, CA, 1976-1982, and Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville, NY, 1982-2001. In 2001 Father Andre was elevated to the priesthood, and is nowassigned to the Holy Trinity Monastery. He is the founder and director of the Summer School of Liturgical Music at Holy Trinity Seminary, Jordanville, NY, 1992 - present, and is the chairman of the Liturgical Music Commission of the Synod of Bishops, Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

Aleksei V. Shipovalnikov was born in Rostov on the Don and studied composition, polyphony and conducting at the Gnesin Sate Conservatory and the Moscow Institute of Culture. His post-graduate studies included a master class with Leonard Bernstein in 1988. He served as Artistic Director and Manager of the Moscow State University Symphony Orchestra and Academic Choir and has conducted in the Soviet Union, West Germany and Poland. He established a reputation during the Communist era for innovative programming in spite of the political risks involved. In 1990 he moved to the United States, where he has served as Choir Director of Christ the Savior Church, San Francisco and Music Director of Slavyanka Men’s Slavic Chorus. He is currently Music Director at Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Jersey City, NJ, and Professor of Liturgical Music at St. Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA.

The closest airport is Newark Liberty Airport. Other area airports are LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Enter the New Jersey Turnpike Extension.

After the toll booth at 14C, exit at “Grand Street.”

Turn right at the first traffic light (Montgomery Street).

Proceed to Washington Boulevard and turn right.

After two short blocks, turn right at Grand Street.

The rectory and church are on the left-hand side.

From New York via Holland Tunnel:

After exiting the Holland Tunnel turn left at the first traffic light, which is Grove Street.

At Christopher Columbus Drive turn left.

At Washington Boulevard turn right. Proceed to Grand Street and turn right.

The rectory and church are on the left side.

Church Parking:

Parking is available on Sunday mornings only at Saint Peter’s Prep Lot, which is located on York Street, which is parallel to and north of Grand Street and eastbound only. The lot is between Van Vorst and Warren Streets, which are southbound only. Entrance to York Street for parking can be made from Luis Munoz Marin Blvd, which is a two-way street. Street parking is available at all other times; however, observe parking regulations. Street parking regulations are suspended on Sundays.
