Register now for June 30 Christian Ed Conference

Intrigue, controversy, struggle, travel, inclement weather, construction and gardening. The book of Genesis has it all. And the Orthodox Church prescribes the reading of Genesis in our private prayer and in our corporate worship. The Fathers taught about it. And we must teach it too. To our young and old alike, a solid foundation in Scripture begins “in the beginning.”

The Department of Christian Education [DCE] of the Orthodox Church in America will host “In the Beginning,” a conference for teachers, parents, youth leaders, and anyone interested in Christian Education. Come join us at Holy Trinity Church, 6822 Broadview Rd., Parma OH, on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. for the day-long conference, that will close with the celebration of Vespers at 5:00 p.m.

DCE co-chair Valerie Zahirsky will present the keynote address, “Genesis for 2007: How Genesis Can Help Our Kids Navigate Their World.”

Workshop topics include “what to teach, who to teach it, and when to teach it”; creating classrooms that are both instructional and interesting; writing thematic lesson plans; and utilizing available resources.

The Very Rev. Theodore Bobosh, rector of Saint Paul the Apostle Church, Dayton, OH, whose column on Scripture recently was launched in the Pascha/Pentecost issue of “The Orthodox Church,” will discuss ways to lead a Bible study on Genesis, while Deacon Joseph Matusiak of the OCA Department of Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministries, will conduct a workshop on youth and environmental issues.

A wide variety of additional materials and resources for Orthodox Christian education will be displayed; many will be available for purchase.

Registration fee is a nominal $15.00 per person.
