St. Vladimir’s Seminary seeks Communications, PR Officer

Saint Vladimir’s Seminary here recently opened a search for a communications and public relations officer to work under the direction of the chief advancement officer.

Responsibilities include facilitatiing and expanding relations between the seminary and its various constituencies, with a focus on parishes, Church leaders, and members of the press and media; editing and managing the production of the semi-annual magazine, SVSNews; coordinating and promiting seminary events in conjunction with seminary departments and personnel, ensuring consistency in both event programming and external communications related to events; maintaining internal communications concerning seminary-related events occurring on and offcampus; chronicling seminary life and managing paper and electronic archives; writing press releases and distributing them to media, Church contacts, and others; performing or arranging photography for seminary events and maintaining and expanding photo files; producing web content; updating and maintaining accurate and expanding lists of relevant local and national media contacts, and serving as liaison between faculty and media contacts; and working closely with the advancement office, alumni relations/recruitment officer, SVS Press, and the director of systems in producing printed and electronic PR materials

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and have a minimum of two years experience in public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field. He or she must possess excellent writing, design, organizational, communications, and relationship skills; familiarity with the field of public relation’s key concepts, practices, and procedures; Microsoft Office, desktop publishing, and internet computer skills; familiarity with the teachings, life, and organization of the Orthodox Church; an ability to understand the seminary’s mission; the ability to communicate the seminary’s work through the internet, newspaper, periodicals, and other forms of media; the ability to handle multiple competing deadlines and prioritize activities; an ability to work independently and as part of a team in planning projects and events in a highly-motivated and self-directed manner; willingness to work occasional weeknights and weekends; initiative and creativity; and professional presentation and demeanor.
