St. Vladimir’s Seminary to host service-oriented high school Christmas Retreat December 26-29

Saint Vladimir’s Seminary invites high school students to participate in a Christmas retreat with a mission: “Who is My Neighbor? The Challenge of the Good Samaritan.”

This service-oriented retreat, to be held December 26-29, 2007, offers high school students the chance to dedicate a portion of their winter break to real ministry. This event is co-sponsored by Saint Vladimir’s Seminary and Orthodox Youth Outreach (OYO), a ministry that provides Orthodox youth with opportunities for community service and short-term missions.

Participants will engage in prayer, fellowship and outreach as they learn together what it means to love one’s neighbor as oneself. The extensive OYO orientation and debriefing sessions will help them prepare for and process encounters with their neighbors among the homeless and neglected. They will spend three nights at Saint Vladimir’s, visiting local ministry sites during the day and returning to the seminary in the evenings for prayers, meals, teaching sessions, and discussion times.

The retreat speakers will be former Orthodox Christian Mission Center missionary, Father Hector Firoglanis, former national director of youth ministries for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America; George Hazlaris; and OYO program director Jordan Henderson. Each has a wealth of outreach experience to share as the group reflects on the challenge of the Good Samaritan that Christ calls us to embrace.

The registration cost is $100. Space is limited.
