Three lessons or readings

Three lessons or readings, also called parameyas (especially if they are from the Old Testament), are prescribed to be read at vespers on all major feasts, whatever day they may take place on. An exception is that there are normally no lessons at the Sunday resurrectional vespers service (served Saturday evening), unless a major feast calling for readings happens to occur on the same day. The Sunday, or Lord’s Day, resurrectional services each week have the rank of a great feast and are deemed to be a smaller version of Pascha.
