DIOCESE OF THE MIDWEST: 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPOSE OF BISHOP BORIS OF CHICAGO
December 30, 2010 marked the 10th anniversary of the repose of His Grace, Bishop Boris, who served the Diocese of Chicago and the Midwest from 1978 until his retirement in 1988.
His episcopacy marked a period of transition, during which the Church continued to come to grips with its mission as an indigenous North American Church that reached beyond its Russian and Alaskan roots. For many years before his consecration to the episcopacy, he served as a military chaplain, and experienced first hand the social and political turmoil of the times, especially during his ministry in Vietnam. A special “In Memoriam” is posted on the web site of the Midwest Diocese at http://www.midwestdiocese.org/news_101230_1.html.
