Bishop Tikhon honored at annual assembly of the Diocese of the West

His Grace, Bishop Tikhon of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and the West was honored at this year’s Diocesan Assembly of the West, held in Las Vegas, NV, October 2-4, 2006. His Grace will be retiring later this year as the diocese’s ruling Hierarch.

LAS VEGAS, NV [OCA Communications] — The Diocese of the West held its 2006 assembly at Saint Paul the Apostle Church here October 2-4, 2006.

His Grace, Bishop Tikhon of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and the West presided.

Delegates, observers, and guests began registering on Monday, October 2, according to the Rev. Peter Tobias, diocesan spokesman. That evening, Vespers was served by the Rev. Eric George Tosi, rector of Saint Paul Church, after which a reception was held in the parish hall for all attendees.

On Tuesday, October 3, the Divine Liturgy was concelebrated by Bishop Tikhon, together with His Grace, Bishop Nikolai of Sitka, Anchorage, and Alaska; His Grace, Bishop Benjamin of Berkeley, Chancellor of the Diocese of the West; the district deans; and Father Eric. After breakfast, a Service of Intercession for the Beginning of Any Good Work was celebrated.

Bishop Tikhon opened the first of two plenary sessions with his address to the faithful, after which Bishop Benjamin delivered the Chancellor’s report. The session ended with the presentation of the financial report by Mary Caetta, diocesan trasurer.

Later that evening, a banquet was held for Bishop Tikhon, who is retiring as the Diocese’s ruling Hierarch, at Sunset Gardens in Las Vegas. Among those in attendance were Bishop Nikolai, Protopresbyter Robert S. Kondratick, and the Very Rev. Alexander Lebedev of Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, Los Angeles, CA, Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.

The assembly ended on Wednesday, October 4, with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the second plenary session, and a Service of Thanksgiving for those traveling home.
