Metropolitan Herman meets with Patriarch Aleksy II of Moscow

Patriarch Aleksy II of Moscow and All Russia met with Metropolitan Herman during the World Summit of Religious Leaders on July 5, 2006.

MOSCOW, RUSSIA [OCA Communications] — On Wednesday, July 5, 2006, His Holiness, Patriarch Aleksy II of Moscow and All Rus met with His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Primate of The Orthodox Church in America, during the Metropolitan’s visit to Moscow to participate in the World Summit of Religious Leaders.

Accompanying Metropolitan Herman were Archimandrite Zacchaeus, OCA Representative in Moscow and Dean of the Church of the Great Martyr Catherine, and Archdeacon Alexei Klimichev, both members of the OCA’s official delegation to the Summit. Other representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church attending the meeting were His Grace, Bishop Ignaty of Vyazem and the Very Rev. Nicholas Balashov, Secretary for Inter-Orthodox Relations of the Department of External Church Relations. The Very Rev. Leonid Kishkovsky, a member of the OCA Department of External Affairs and Interchurch Relations who attended the Summit as a part of the delegation of the World Conference of Religions for Peace, also participated in the meeting.

During the course of the meeting, Metropolitan Herman congratulated Patriarch Aleksy for taking the initiative of hosting the World Summit of Religious Leaders prior to the meeting of the G8 Meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, and thanked him for the kind invitation to participate in such an important historic event.

In response, Patriarch Aleksy thanked Metropolitan Herman for making such a long journey to participate in the Summit and affirmed his fraternal love and best wishes to the Primate of The Orthodox Church in America.
