FOCA funds Church School program at St. Tikhon’s Seminary

Responding to a request received from Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, delegates to the Myrtle Beach national convention of the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America [FOCA] in early September approved the funding of supplies for the seminary’s Church School program.

With the increase in the number of married students attending the seminary, there was a growing need for a Church school program for their children, according to Khouriya Olga Atty, wife of the seminary’s Dean, Archpriest Dr. Alexander Atty.

The Fellowship contributed $1,300.00 to fund 15 student chairs, scissors, prayer books, a visual catechism and numerous books, including pop-up parables and Bible stories, icon coloring books, and other resources.

Allison Steffaro, the FOCA’s newly-elected national recording secretary, coordinated the effort.

“I am happy to let you know that the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America will be sending you a check to cover all the needed supplies on your list, including shipping,” she wrote to Khouriya Olga.  “Our treasurer will be sending it out today. We send our blessing to you and your students and hope that their families will continue to educate their children in the Orthodox Faith for many years to come.”

The FOCA has had a long tradition of funding Church school programs and sponsoring seminars for Church school teachers.
