Liturgical Music

The Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Liturgical Music and Translations recently announced that transcripts of its “Orthodox Liturgical Music Chatroom” are now available on the OCA web site.

The chatroom was inaugurated in 2006, and was accessible on the first and third Tuesdays of each month throughout 2006 and 2007.  At each session, a specialist moderated a discussion related to Church music, hymnology, vocal technique, rubrics, Church music for children, setting music to English, etc.  Moderators included His Grace, Bishop [now Archbishop] Benjamin; Mark Bailey; Monk Sergius [Bowyer]; Prof. David Drillock; Helen Erickson; Archpriest Sergius Glagolev; John Graham; Priest Sergius Halvorsen; Alice Hughes; Dr. Joseph McLellan; Archpriest Lawrence Margitich; Ivan Moody; Dr Vladimir Morosan’ Walter Obleschuk; Dr. Nicolas Schidlovsky; Alexis Shipovalnikov; and Valerie Yova.

The transcripts are of special value to choir directors, singers, and everyone interested in acquiring a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the Church’s liturgical Tradition.
