Metropolitan Council to meet September 27-30

The Metropolitan Council of the Orthodox Church in America will face a full agenda at its meeting at the Chancery here Tuesday, September 27 through Friday, September 30, 2011.

Chaired by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, the Metropolitan Council is made up of representatives of every diocese, elected at their respective diocesan assemblies, as well as members elected by the All-American Council.

Individual Metropolitan Council committees will meet on Tuesday evening, September 27, with formal Council sessions opening the following morning with Metropolitan Jonah’s opening remarks and reports His Grace, Bishop Melchisedek, Interim Chancellor; Archpriest Eric G. Tosi, Secretary; and Mrs. Melanie Ringa, Treasurer.

The remainder of the day will be devoted to the work of the Metropolitan Council’s various committees Crisis Management, Sexual Misconduct, Ethics, Charity, Council Development, Internal Governance, and the Strategic Plan.  A review of legal issues, the internal auditors’ report, and an update on plans for the 16th All-American Council round out Wednesday’s agenda.

On Thursday, September 29, sessions will open with a detailed review of the 2010 statement and the external audit report by Mrs. Ringa.  The Finance/Investment Committee will offer its report before the 2012 budget is introduced for discussion and approval.  A report from the Pension Board also will be given.

Friday, September 30, will be devoted to the work of the Strategic Plan Committee.
