Patriarch Ignatius IV of Antioch suffers stroke
A briefing released by Archpriest George Kevorkian, Chancellor of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, requested prayers for His Beatitude, Patriarch Ignatius IV of Antiochian and All the East, who had been admitted to Saint George Hospital, Beirut, one day earlier.
The 91-year-old Patriarch was listed in critical but stable condition after suffering a stroke. He remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit, where according to media sources he is being treated by specialists.
Upon learning of Patriarch Ignatius’ condition, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, called upon the clergy and faithful of the Orthodox Church in America to offer prayers on the Patriarch’s behalf.
