Youth Department offers presentations at seminaries

Jen Nahas

The Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries recently began its outreach to the OCA’s seminaries by offering practical training in the field of youth ministry.

Deacon John Diamantis, who chairs the OCA Diocese of New York and New Jersey’s Department of College Ministries, recently inaugurated the annual Fall Luncheon Lecture Series at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA, with a presentation on initiating campus ministry efforts in the parish context.  Deacon John, a 2007 Saint Tikhon graduate, also serves as Northeast Regional Chaplain for the Orthodox Christian Fellowship [OCF].

On Tuesday November, 27, 2012, Deacon John joined Andrew Boyd, OCA Youth Director, and the OCF’s Jennifer Nahas to offer presentations at Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, Crestwood, NY.  Ms. Nahas spoke about general trends in higher education, including increasing debt loads and decreasing graduation rates. She also spoke about the programs and resources offered by OCF. Deacon John shared ideas on establishing OCF chapters and campus-based ministries, while Mr. Boyd presented several specific resources available from the OCA and shared strategies for incorporating young adults into the parish community.

Department personel are available to offer similar presentations in parishes, deaneries, and dioceses. For additional information, please contact Mr. Boyd at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
