Resources: Christian Education Materials for Fall and the Nativity Fast

With the beginning of the Church School year just around the corner, it’s never too early to plan fall lessons and activities.

The Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Christian Education has a number of resources for fall and the Nativity Fast available on its web site at dce.oca.org.

Among the offerings…

  • A story about Saint Martin of Tours (feast day October 12) is now available. The story has been written on two levels, for ages 8-11, and 12 and above. For each level there are suggestions to discuss and reflect on the life of Saint Martin, whose example can help students face decisions and conflicting demands in their own lives.
  • Several plays suitable for the period of the Nativity are available. In addition, a five-session study unit written on five age levels, titled The Nativity Season, is available.
  • Bulletin inserts for every Sunday of the year, written by Department members, are available.
  • The Child with Autism in Church. In response to requests to address the question of helping children with autism have a good worship experience, an article titled The Child with Autism in Church, is now available.
