Parish Background
St Innocent of Alaska Mission is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America—the “autocephalous” or “self-governing” Church of the United States, Canada, and Mexico, under the jurisdiction of His Beatitude Metropolitan HERMAN. The parish is under the Omophorion of His Grace Bishop TIKHON, Bishop of San Francisco, Los Angeles and the West.
In 1836, St Innocent (Veniaminov), at the age of 39 and while still a priest in Alaska, visited the Franciscan Mission San Jose where our mission began in the early 1990’s. No wonder he was chosen as our Patron Saint. Fr James McLuckie pastored the fledgling mission for several years. Following a heart attack, Fr James was unable to continue his ministry at the mission. He was replaced by our present pastor, Fr Leo (Bob) Arrowsmith, a former Jesuit Priest and veteran missionary teacher in Japan for 13 years.
We are blessed to have a multi-ethnic congregation, but conduct all of our services in English.
If you are mission minded—eager to see the Kingdom of God speread through Orthodoxy in the San Francisco Bay Area, come be part of our evangelical outreach. Our Bible Study Fellowship is our training ground. Our Sunday Liturgies and Homilies are the declaration of God’s Word to the nations. You are warmly invited to visit and worship the Triune God with us next Sunday.
