Monastery of the Transfiguration to host youth retreat Saturday, June 26

His Grace, Bishop Melchisedek of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania will be the keynote speaker at the annual youth retreat hosted by the sisterhood of the Monastery of the Transfiguration here Saturday, June 26, 2010.

Co-sponsored by the Diocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, the retreat will begin at 10:30 a.m. and close with the celebration of Great Vespers at 3:30 p.m.

Three members of the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Christian Education—Alexandra Safchuk, Myra Kovalak, and Maria Proch, assisted by Marie Proch—will conduct a variety of activities focusing on the theme “Monks and Nuns: Soldiers of Christ.” The nuns will introduce the DCE’s new study units on monasticism and field questions on the monastic life.
