Ohio Monastery to celebrate 25th anniversary

Saint John the Theologian Monastery here will celebrate its 25th anniversary in conjunction with the community’s patronal feastday and annual pilgrimage September 25-26, 2007.

The monastery was established in the early 1980s by His Grace, the late Bishop Boris of Chicago, on property that for years had served as a retirement home for Orthodox Christian men.

His Eminence, Archbishop Job of Chicago and the Midwest, will preside at the celebration. Archimandrite Alexander and visiting clergy will concelebrate.

The pilgrimage will open with the celebration of the Vigil at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated the following morning at 10:00 a.m.

The pilgrimage will conclude with a silver anniversary banquet at the Knights of Columbus Hall, a five-minute drive from the monastery, at 1:00 p.m. Catering will be provided by Saint Michael’s Woodside, Broadview Heights, OH. Donation for the banquet is only $10.00 per person, with seating limited to 200 persons.

Banquet reservations should be made before September 1 by contacting the monastery at 5862 Allyn Road, Hiram, OH 44234 or by calling 330/274-2052.

“We look forward to a spiritually rewarding day,” said the Very Rev. Peter Pawlack, monastery secretary. “We will be nourished by the Eucharist, by the inspiring words of our archpastor, faithful clergy and monastics, and the presence of many faithful from our parish communities who have helped and have given assistance to the monastery over the years in so many different ways.”
