Orthodox Christian Women of Montreal to hold Annual Conference

Orthodox Christian Women [OCW] of Montreal will sponsor its 13th annual conference on Saturday, March 6, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Sign of the Theotokos Church, 750 St-Joseph E, metro Laurier, here.

The theme of this year’s Conference is “Why Be Orthodox?” The keynote speaker is Mrs. Valerie Zahirsky, a graduate of Saint Vladimir Seminary, Crestwood, NY. Mrs. Zahirsky is well known for her expertise in religious education and has spoken widely on issues concerning women and families in the Church. She also has represented the Orthodox Church in America at both Orthodox and ecumenical meetings in Crete, Australia, Switzerland, Damascus and Istanbul. At present she is a member of the OCA’s Department of Christian Education.

OCW is an organization through which women from many ethnic backgrounds come together to share their experiences and common concerns about our troubled world in light of the Orthodox Faith and Tradition. Each of the first eleven conferences have been attended by nearly 100 people. Both women and men are welcome to participate in the conference.

The $25 registration fee covers the cost of the conference, a continental breakfast, luncheon, coffee breaks and all conference materials. Displays featuring books, icons, CDs, audio cassettes and other Orthodox items will be available.
