Search for qualified candidate for position of OCA secretary extended

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — The deadline for applications for the position of Secretary of the Orthodox Church in America has been extended, as no satisfactory candidates have been found, according to Deacon John Zarras, OCA transition officer.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Salary and benefits are commensurate with pay and benefits in the Long Island, NY, area.

Applications should include a cover letter, resume, and three letters of reference for the position of Secretary. Education, experience, skills, and knowledge pertinent to the position should be summarized. The applicant, and those writing reference letters, should consult the following list of duties in preparing these documents for the Search Committee.

The Secretary serves as the primary administrative manager of the OCA and is responsible for collecting, analyzing, summarizing, and preserving the OCA official and ecclesiastical records and oversees the Archives. In addition, the Secretary directs the administrative, housekeeping, and facilities management of the OCA Chancery, including human resource management, and information technology; supports the Church’s Councils and Synods; serves as team leader for planning and logistics of the All-American Councils; and maintains the legal status of the church as a non-profit entity.

A thorough understanding of the culture of the Orthodox Church in America is essential. The applicant must have excellent administrative and communication skills to manage people, funds and property.

Inasmuch as the Secretary is an Officer of the Orthodox Church in America and a member of the Metropolitan Council, candidates must be members in good standing of the Orthodox Church in America.
