CRESTWOOD, NY [OCA Communications] — Eleven students from Saint Vladimir’s Seminary here are visiting parishes in southern California from January 5 through 16, 2006 as part of the school’s traveling chorale, under the direction of Deacon Kevin Smith, instructor in liturgical music.
In addition to singing liturgical responses at services and presenting concerts highlighting a variety of traditional Orthodox musical styles, chorale members also are offering presentations on the work of the seminary and meeting with potential students. They are also making a variety of publications, icons, and other resources available to the faithful.
“The chorale tour gives participating students an opportunity to connect with the Church on a local level while providing an opportunity for parishes distant from the seminary to get to know us through our seminarians and their singing,” said Ms. Sofia Lopoukhine, SVS director of public relations.
The chorale undertook a similar tour of the Midwest in May and early June 2005.
