Archpriest Anthony Karbo fell asleep in the Lord, surrounded by his family, on March 19, 2024 after battling cancer for three years.
In 1992, shortly after joining the Orthodox Church in Delta, CO, Father Anthony moved with his family to Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA. Following his ordination in 1995, Father Anthony was assigned to the small parish of Saints Constantine and Helen in Colorado Springs, CO. This is where Father Anthony and Matushka Elizabeth would serve the church together for the next 29 years.
During his time in Colorado Springs Father Anthony oversaw the building of a new temple, Holy Theophany, as well as the establishment of the Agia Sofia coffee shop and bookstore which served as the first introduction to Orthodoxy for many people in the community. Through God’s grace the parish grew over the years and the Saint John the Baptist Mission was established as well as the Saint Tikhon mission in Parker, CO.
Father Anthony served as Dean for 15 years within the OCA Diocese of the West and also served many years on the Diocesan council. He led teams on dozens of work trips to Mexico and Alaska, and inspired many of his parishioners to serve as missionaries.
The Lord, in His great providence, allowed Father Anthony a long three years following the news of his terminal illness in 2021. One of his greatest crosses towards the end of his life was being physically unable to celebrate the Liturgy with his flock.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, his five children, and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services for Father Anthony are as follows:
Friday March 22
6:00 PM Office of Burial of a Priest
Saturday March 23
9:00 AM Divine Liturgy with interment
Services will take place at Holy Theophany Church in Colorado Springs, CO (2770 N. Chestnut St, Colorado Springs, CO 80907).
Matushka Elizabeth asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Saint John the Baptist Mission.
May Father Anthony’s memory be eternal!
