Archpriest Daniel Pavelchak, 80, Pastor Emeritus of Saint Nicholas Church here, fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday September 17, 2013, embraced by his loving family.
Born in Simpson, PA, the son of the late Theodore and Anna Pavelchak, he was the beloved husband of the late Matushka Barbara [Gurka] Pavelchak. He graduated from Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, PA. He served parishes in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Massachusetts prior to his retirement as Pastor Emeritus of Saint Nicholas Church, Cohoes, NY. He also served as Dean of the Frackville Deanery. In addition, he taught history and Russian in Pennsylvania and New York schools and had great devotion to life-long learning in math, philosophy, theology, the sciences, and music. He was an accomplished singer of Liturgical and Russian folk music in various choral groups. He inspired everyone who met him with his love of life, laughter, and friendship, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. His greatest passion was for the love and companionship that he shared with his wife Barbara, to whom he was married for 56 years. As a couple, they were inseparable and the spark of their love grew stronger with every year. He and Matushka Barbara’s greatest devotion was to nurturing the love and strong bonds within the family.
Father Daniel is survived by his loving children, Michael (Sharon) Pavelchak, Wilton, NY; Charissa (Benton) Prentice, Providence, RI; and Nicholas (Joyce) Pavelchak, Altamont, NY; grandchildren Zachariah, Alexandra, Kyra, and Jeremy; sister, Matushka Valerie (Archpriest Gerald Sudick), Triangle VA; aunt Mary Okorn, Simpson, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
