Archpriest Demetrius Edwards, 68, Rector of Saint Gregory Church here, fell asleep in the Lord on January 7, 2016. He was a founding member of Saint Symeon Church, Birmingham, AL and Saint Gregory the Theologian Church, and it was his honor to serve as the latter’s faithful for 24 years.
Father Demetrius was an adoring father to Lori Edwards and Bethany Tsismanakis [James]; devoted grandfather to Nickolas, Gabriel, and Alexander; and caring brother to Betty Mynatt, Jimmy, James and Ralph Edwards. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Matushka Constance; his parents, Coraline and Theodore; and his sisters, Carolyn and Mayline.
Visitation will begin at Saint Gregory Church, Moundville, AL on Sunday, January 10, at 5:00 p.m. The Panikhida will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service for a Priest will be celebrated on Monday, January 11, at 10:00 a.m. with Archpriests Alexander Fecanin and John Stefero officiating. Interment will follow at Saint Nicholas Cemetery, Brookside, AL. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorials in his honor be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
