Archpriest Dionysius (Dennis) Swencki fell asleep in the Lord at his home on Sunday evening, October 20, 2024. His wife, Matushka Marion (nee Osborn), fell asleep in the Lord in 2022.

Born in Braddock, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen and Emma Popovich Swencki.  Father Dennis was a graduate of Trafford High School, Marywood College with a Master of Science in Religious Education, and Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the Holy Priesthood on June 8, 1974 by His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman (Swaiko). Father Dennis also served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1966.

Father Dennis served locally at Saint Michael’s Church, Jermyn, PA, Saints Peter & Paul Church, Union Dale, PA, and Saint John the Baptist Church, Dundaff, PA.  He was also employed in the offices of the Orthodox Church in America, Syosset, NY, Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, South Canaan, PA, Duane Morris LLP, Philadelphia, PA and Caesar’s Pocono Resorts, Scotrun, PA.

He is survived by his three children, Melanie Swencki, Harveys Lake, PA, Stephen Swencki and wife Kelly, Bear Creek, PA and Alexis Swencki, Philadelphia, PA, a sister, Kathleen Goich, Clinton Township, MI and a brother, Stephen Swencki, Greensburg, PA, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit on Friday from 3:30 PM until 6:00 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson, PA. The Funeral Service for a Priest will be on Friday at 7:00 PM in Saint Tikhon of Zadnosk Monastery Church, 175 St. Tikhon’s Road, Waymart, PA. Divine Liturgy will be Saturday at 9:00 AM with interment following in Saint Tikhon’s Cemetery.
