Archpriest Theodore Soroka, 89, fell asleep in the Lord on the morning of February 8, 2012.
Born on September 22, 1922 in Belle Vernon, PA, a son of Theodore and Irene Pawlack Soroka, Father Theodore was a graduate of Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan. On July 21, 1957, he married the former Sophia Hubiak, daughter of Archpriest Afanasy and Susan Wanchisen Hubiak. He was ordained to the diaconate by His Eminence, Archbishop Dmitri [Magan] of Philadelphia on August 31, 1957, and to the priesthood the following day.
From 1957 until 1965, he served Saint John the Baptist Church, Black Lick, PA; Saint John Chrysostom Church, Grand Rapids, MI; and Holy Transfiguration Church, Steubenville, OH. In 1964, he was assigned pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Miami, FL, which he served until his retirement from active ministry in 1995. In retirement, he remained attached to Saints Peter and Paul Church.
In addition to his wife, Matushka Sophia, he is survived by his sisters Augustine Soroka, Belle Vernon; Stevanna Lis, Aliquippa, PA; Helen [Bill] Evansky, Forest Hills, PA; Vera [Tony] Trona, Canonsburg, PA; and Martha [Ron] Zeli, Belle Vernon; loving neices and nephews; and caretaker and friend Karen Tkacz.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 1411 SW 11th Street, Miami, with the celebration of the Panikhida at 7:30 p.m.
The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 14, at 11:00 a.m. A repast will follow at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, 16601 NW 77 Court, Miami Lakes, FL.
On Wednesday, February 15, visitation will be held from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Holy Resurrection Church, Mary Street, Belle Vernon, PA. A Panikhida will be celebrated at 6:30 PM.
The Funeral Service for a Priest, followed by interment at Belle Vernon Cemetery, will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16, at 10:00 a.m. His Grace, Bishop Melchisedek of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, will preside, assisted by Archpriest Samuel Smolcic, rector.
