Archpriest William DuBovik, Jr., 64, Rector of All Saints Church here, fell asleep in the Lord on June 6, 2013.
Father William was born in New Haven, CT. He is a graduate of Saint Tikhon’s Seminary and a 1970 alumnus of Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven. Ordained to the diaconate in 1988 and the priesthood in 1989, he served as Pastor of Saint Nicholas Church, Norwich, CT; an assistant in Three Saints Church, Ansonia; and as a supply priest for the New England Diocese and Connecticut Deanery prior to his assignment as Rector of All Saints Church.
In addition to his pastoral duties, he was a former editor of the diocesan newspaper, Orthodox New England, for which he continued to write, and previously was an associate editor and contributing writer to the Orthodox Christian Journal and other publications. He was a former treasurer of the Connecticut Deanery and a representative to the Diocesan Council. He received the awards of nabedrennik in 1995, skufia in 1997, and gold cross in 2004.
Father William was a published poet and free-lance writer before and during his time as a priest. Prior to ordination, he was active in politics, having served on Republican Town Committees in New Haven and Orange. He was a ward chairman in New Haven; a candidate for State Representative and a former Justice of the Peace. He worked on research and publicity in several campaigns, and was a strong public advocate for the sanctity of life. Father William’s career in journalism included several years as a reporter and then assistant city editor for the former Evening Sentinel, which served the Lower Naugatuck Valley, and he served for seven years as assistant Sunday editor for the Connecticut Post Publishing Company, Bridgeport, and as managing editor at The Resident, Stonington, CT.
He was the devoted husband of the late Matushka Suzanne [Jarven] DuBovik, who fell asleep in the Lord in 1986; wonderful, loving, caring and dedicated father of Christopher DuBovik and Nadia DuBovik-Lugo; and loving grandfather of Nazarius William Lugo and Alexander Francis Lugo. He was predeceased by several relatives including his parents, Mary and William, and sisters, Janice and Estelle.
Visitation will begin at All Saints Church, 205 Scarborough Street, Hartford, on Monday, June 10, at 4:00 p.m. A Panikhida will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. following the visitation. Funeral services will be celebrated on at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, followed by interment at Three Saints Cemetery, Seymour, CT.
